The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a credible and well-organized electoral process, highlighting significant progress made in 2025 in preparation for the 2026 general elections.

Speaking on NBS Frontline on Thursday, EC Deputy Spokesperson Paul Bukenya said the Commission has actively addressed challenges arising from the recent nomination exercise, with the majority of complaints already resolved.

“We’ve also responded to emerging issues from the nomination exercise. Many issues have been heard and determined, with a few still yet to be handled,” he said, adding that the Commission is reviewing outstanding matters in line with electoral laws to ensure fairness and transparency.

Bukenya described 2025 as an intense and productive year for the EC, marked by steady implementation of activities aligned with the electoral roadmap. “2025 was a packed year for us at the EC. We’ve been progressing with the implementation of activities leading up to next year’s election,” he said.

These activities include voter registration updates, stakeholder consultations, internal capacity building, and logistical planning, all aimed at ensuring the Commission is fully prepared for polling day.

The EC has consistently emphasized its independence and readiness to conduct free, fair, and credible elections while urging political actors and the public to engage responsibly throughout the electoral process.

With less than three weeks to the January 15th, 2026 general elections, the Commission will continue providing regular updates to ensure transparency and confidence in the electoral process.
